Wally Charles Jerke

Wally Charles Jerke, an amazing Christian who loved friends, family and the lord deeply.

Wally passed away on June 11th  2024 from complications from an aneurism. The staff at the hospitals in Soda Springs and Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello Idaho gave Wally excellent and loving care.

Wally was born on November 10th, 1945, in Wendell, Idaho to Norma and Paul Jerke. Wally was born at the old St. Valentines hospital which is now the Manor.  He was the third of four sons born to his parents. Wally attended grade school in Jerome until his parents bought a farm in Wendell in 1958, in the West Point area. Wally finished grade school in Wendell, and he went on to graduate from high school in 1965. Wally was active in Walther League, the Lutheran youth group and always helped his parents on the farm.

In 1966 Wally married Dolores Robinson and they had two sons, Jan Michael Jerke and Blaine Mark Jerke. Jan was born on October 14, 1968, and Blaine was born April 1, 1971.  Wally and Dolores later divorced.

Wally lived in Soda Springs Idaho and worked at Monsanto Co. He made friends wherever he went, and he kept some of those friendships for a lifetime. After Monsanto, Wally went back to the Magic Valley to farm and farmed for Dewey Thomason in Jerome. He was able to buy his parents’ farm at West Point in 1976.  After a few short falls in farming God had other plans for Wally.  The Wendell School District hired Wally as a custodian, and he worked there for 25 years.  Wally had a wonderful rapport with the students, faculty and administration. There was not anyone who didn’t like Wally.  Wally dearly loved his sons. Jan and Blaine brought such joy into his life, and he always had a special relationship with them. His boys spent a lot of time with him farming, hunting, fishing, camping, and cutting wood. It was quality time that meant the world to Wally.  Wally loved his amazing boys.

In 1986 Wally met and married Kathy Mallea in Wendell, Idaho. She was his partner, wife and friend for 38 years. They had a lifetime commitment to one another. Wally now had a daughter named Lisa who was 6 at the time.  His family grew overnight with 3 children Jan, Blaine, and Lisa. Wally had a special relationship with Lisa who he loved very much.  He was the Dad he didn’t have to be and he was the best Dad.  He got to help her grow, learn and often helped her with her do it your self-projects such as drywall and plumbing.

Wally loved to play the guitar and he had a genuine love for music and especially gospel blue grass, and some of his “silly songs”.  He enjoyed playing his guitar in church. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Wally spent a lot of time with his family. He also loved all his nieces and nephews.

Wally never knew a stranger, and He made friends easily and kept many of those friends for a lifetime. He was an amazing man and example; he loved the lord.

Wally is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Jan Jerke (Denise), Blaine Jerke (Karlin), Lisa Mallea (Cevin) his grandchildren Amanda Hepworth (Dustin), Jessica Nicholls (Chad), Zak Jerke, Ryan Ottenger (Andrea), Jules Jerke (Mark), Shill Mountz (Ryan), Zach Ottenger, Sydnee Jerke, Drake Jerke, his great grandchildren Corbyn, Aedyn, Holdyn, Emersyn, Wyatt, Emmett, Brinley, James and Silas. Also his brothers Paul Jerke (Cappy) and Marion Jerke (Sue). Nieces and nephews Rod, Cyndi, Shellie, Curt, Randy, Vickie, Louisa, and Nathan and his many great nieces and nephews. Wally loved his family deeply.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Norma Jerke, brother Norman Jerke and Norman’s wife Martha.

Graveside services will be held on July 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wendell, Idaho Cemetery. A dinner will follow the service at the American Legion Hall in Wendell. Arrangements are under the care of the Anderson Family Funeral Home.
