Stella Waite~Powers

Stella Waite-Powers, of Anchorage passed away peacefully after a full life of 90 years at her daughter’s home surrounded by family Friday, June 7th; after succumbing to cancer. She was born on December 17,1933 in Arco, Idaho to Olga Mae and George Albert Waite.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Burton Powers, daughter Trudy Powers, granddaughter Hailey Faber, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

She had a zest for life and a personality to go with it. She never met a stranger that she did not like. Her love for people and the kindness shown to everyone was exceptional. She was known for her hats, high heels, colorful classy fashion, and always the life of the party. She brought joy and laughter to everyone that will leave an everlasting impact.

She was lucky enough to have had two successful marriages. The second was to loving husband James (Jim) Wheeles. Together the last six years were spent dancing, traveling, being snowbirds in Arizona and spending summers at their favorite place on the Kenai Peninsula (Poachers Cove) with hours devoted to fishing and fun, and oh the fish stories she could tell.

Her love for her Savior and her family brought her peace and happiness. They were the most important things in her life. She was a loving, compassionate, supportive, and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was so incredibly proud of each one of us.

After raising her six children she went to work for the State of Alaska District Attorney’s Office and retired from working for the Division of Mining.

She is survived by her husband, James Wheeles, Son Merrill Powers (Vicki), Daughter Eileen Faber (Gary), Son Burton Powers (Kristina), daughter Patti Cronquist, son Tyson Powers (Jib), 14 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
