Russell Howard Mays, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Howe, Idaho on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
He was born on April 3, 1939, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Russell Robert Mays and Wilma Irene Peck. Russell was raised in Howe, Idaho where he attended school in the little red schoolhouse before attending high school in Arco. Russell continued his education at Idaho State University completing a degree in Diesel Mechanics.
On May 6, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Kayalin Andersen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Howe where Russell farmed, ranched, and started his own trucking company.
Russell was always an active person and was involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren as well as serving his community and church. He also enjoyed fishing, snow machining, elk spotting, and sharing a story with friends.
Russell is survived by his spouse, Kayalin; children, Loralie Mays, Brian (JoAnna) Mays, Lisa (Todd) Eaton, Carla (Mike) Hansen, and Jill (Eric) Owens, his brother, Dean, and sisters, Elaine and Susan, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Wilma Mays, and a grandson, Shane Eaton.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Howe LDS Church. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, September 1, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Howe LDS Church and from 9:30 am to 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will be in the Howe Cemetery under the direction of the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Arco.
