A neighborly, hardworking man and lifelong rancher, who loved his children, enjoyed working cattle, riding his horse, and had a deep faith in God describes our Dad perfectly. Dad passed away on August 9, 2021, at his home in Lost River surrounded by his family.
Robert Dale Waddoups was born February 17, 1931, in Lost River, Idaho to Royal and Veta Waddoups. He grew up in the Lost River Valley with a family of 12 children. Bob loved his family and maintained a close relationship with each of them. Bob married Charmaine Owens and was married 61 years. They had six children, 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Bob was a farmer and rancher all his life. There is nothing he loved more than working the cattle, riding his horse, and being in the mountain pasture and the Big Butte Desert. Sharing the farm and ranch work with his sons, Bob pursued additional careers. He purchased the Shoshone Sale Yard in 1972 and attended an auctioneering school, becoming one of the auctioneers at the sale yard. He sold the sale yard in 1979. He then worked for Butte County Bank/First Security Bank as a Field Representative for 20 years. He traveled throughout Idaho and into Oregon working with ranchers and farmers. He got to know many people in his jobs outside of ranching and was very proud of his accomplishments, as is his family.
Bob also was a man of service and enjoyed being involved in the community. Perhaps the service he loved doing most was being involved in the 4-H fairs for Custer and Butte County. He spent many decades auctioneering at the fat-stock sales and looked forward to them every year. He also auctioneered one year at the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Bob’s love for 4-H didn’t stop at auctioneering. He also was personally involved in the events. He team-penned for years and was in his 80’s when he participated in his last event. After this event, he made the comment that he was getting slower as his team didn’t win that year.
Bob auctioned at several other events including community and church bazaars, school events and the “Wish Upon Star Foundation”. It seems anytime an auctioneer was needed; he was called on. Bob auctioned well into his 80’s. He also served on the BLM Board of Directors, Agricultural Service Board, Lost River Co-op Board of Directors, and Agricultural Bankers Committee for the State of Idaho.
Bob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served his church in many capacities from working with youth to teaching Sunday School, which he loved. God was very important to him. He prayed daily and always reminded his children to say their prayers. He served as a great example to many.
We know that dad is celebrating with our mom. He missed her dearly and we are happy they are reunited. He is survived by six children, Keith (Debbie) of Moore, Anita (Brad) of Blackfoot, Wade (Leanne) of Moore, Susan of Spokane, Washington, Connie (Curt) of Blackfoot, and Janie (Sheldon) of Estes Park, Colorado, has 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is joining his love, Charmaine, his parents, six siblings, and countless friends in heaven. We will miss you Dad.
Funeral services will be held in the Moore, Idaho Stake Center, Saturday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. A viewing will be held to honor Bob on Friday, August 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Arco, Idaho, and at 1:00 p.m. in the Moore Stake Center prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Lost River Cemetery.
