Monte J. Christopherson

Monte Christopherson, aka “Goob”, 72, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at his home in Arco.

He was born in Arco, Idaho on August 9, 1952, to Dallas Morgan Christopherson and Dorothy Ida Ott Christopherson.   Monte attended school and graduated from Butte County High School in 1970.

Growing up he enjoyed mining with his father and camping, hunting and fishing with his family.  Always an avid fan of music, he loved to sing and dance before being left partially paralyzed from a stroke.  He enjoyed being able to play the guitar and harmonica.  He loved football and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions.  He collected stuffed Lions and would call his “teammates” together after lining them up to watch the game with him.  He loved old classic rock and classic movies.

Monte had several jobs throughout his life.  He worked at mining, the INL and served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany.  He lived a frugal life and was always selfless, helping anyone in need.

Monte had a few life partners and once you were a part of his life, it was a forever thing.  He was stubborn, but so full of kindness.  In the winter he would knock snow off people’s tires because it was dangerous.  It was just a little small unseen act of kindness that he did, just because. He was always the one who was calm in a storm, selfless and sure.  He loved to crack jokes to make people smile.  Monte was a father and grandfather to not just his blood family, but also to his few life partners’ families.  He was just so kind to everyone and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his siblings, Jim Dale Christopherson, Poulsbo, WA, Dan Christopherson, Pocatello, ID, Pat McKinney (John), Salmon, ID; his grandchildren, Hope Larson, Allysa Larson, Braxton Larson, Brayden Bates; his great grandchildren, Bexleigh and Kamberlyn.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Shannon Empey, Jean Hughes, and Kerri Letenare.

A celebration of Monte’s life will be held and announced at a future date.  Cremation services were provided by the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Arco.
