Mavis Liane McAffee left this life, Tuesday, July 28, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mavis was born April 2, 1960, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Helen Williams McAffee and Gerald Clayton McAffee. She was raised in Leslie, Idaho. She was a drummer in the pep band prior to her graduation from Mackay High School. She continued her education, earning a realtor license and a MBA degree in Florida.
Mavis served as an administrator at a large senior citizen/nursing center in Florida. During a huge hurricane she worked very hard to assure the safety of the residents, at one point in time moving them all to different locations to keep them out of harm’s way. After many years she felt the call back to the west and moved to Salt Lake City where she was closer to home and family. She worked in the real estate market, health care facility (CNS) and at the time of her death was serving as a floor supervisor for UPS. She loved getting to know Salt Lake City real estate and enjoyed matching buyers with the perfect homes. She was in charge of vaccinations at the health care facility and spent many hours ensuring that under- advantaged individuals had the proper immunization and care. She particularly enjoyed working in a Laotian community and spoke often of the beautiful children she was able to help. She created the flu bug mascot ‘Spike’, with a life size costume, who accompanied her to all the shot clinics to help charm the children and ease their fear of immunization. The last several years of her life she enjoyed her ‘team’ at UPS and was instrumental in keeping efficiency maximized while keeping up the comradery and morale of her team.
Mavis loved hiking and rock hunting. She was an avid reader. She loved to travel, the highlight of her travels being her trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. She loved seeing the Buddhist temples and beautiful ruins. She was awed by the jungle and intense greenery of all the countryside.
Survivors include her older brother Ryan George McAffee, sisters-in-law Genae McAffee and Trilby McAffee and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, two older brothers, Gerald Maurice and Randy Sanford McAffee, sister-in-law Linda McAffee, nephew Richard McAffee and niece Stacy Ann McAffee preceded her in death.
As per Mavis’ request, a graveside ceremony will be held to celebrate her life at the Mt. McCaleb Cemetery in Mackay. It will be held on Saturday, Aug 29, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Due to COVID-19 the service will be private but will be streamed live on FaceBook for anyone wishing to participate remotely.
