Mary McCurdy Hamilton

Mary McCurdy Hamilton, longtime resident of Arco, passed away December 1, 2018.

She was born May 9, 1933 in Holladay, Utah to Albert James Newman and Electa Catherine Capson.

Mary grew up on a diary farm and her father also had an extensive fruit orchard. Mary's mother passed away when she was three years old. A few years later her father married Virginia May Ellis.

As a young child, Mary had scarlet fever. As a teen, it was discovered she had a heart murmur. As a result of it, all her school classes were kept on the first floor. Mary loved opera and sang in the high school choir. She graduated from Granite High School in Utah.

Mary met Billy Duane McCurdy while visiting her sister, Jeanne Adamson, in Arco, Idaho. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 21, 1953. To this marriage was born seven children.

Mary attended Blackfoot Beauty College and received her beautician's license.

Billy passed away on April 30, 1978. She married Charles P. (Deacon) Hamilton on November 13, 1978 in Elko, Nevada. She cared for him until he passed away.

Mary loved camping, fishing, and hunting. She was an accomplished seamstress, and knitter.

Surviving are her two sisters, Jeanne (George) Jenkins of Pasco, WA and Virginia (Jess) Brown of Sugar City, ID; her seven children, James (Elsie) McCurdy, Moore, ID, Cindy (Steve) DeRoche, Lonny (Tami) McCurdy, both of Pocatello, ID, Shawn McCurdy, Paul, ID, Dustin (LeAnn) McCurdy, Heyburn, ID, Billie Jo (James) Mitchell and Stacey (Lori) McCurdy both of Arco, ID, 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Moore Stake Center. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home, 2555 N. Highway 93, Arco, ID and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Arco.
