Leon Jed Powell

Leon Jed Powell was born at home in Heman, Idaho on March 17th , 1938 and passed
away at his home in Moore, Idaho on February 11, 2025. His parents were James Raymond
Powell and Agnes Pearl (Terry) Powell. He graduated from Sugar Salem High School and joined
the Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska working mostly in artillery and on the radio
equipment. After his honorable discharge in 1959, he met and married his sweetheart, Phyllis
(Hope) Powell on September 22, 1961, in Leslie, Idaho at the LDS Church and were later sealed
for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. Leon has always been an Idaho boy
through and through, living in Heman, Rexburg, Sugar Salem, Darlington and then Moore.

Leon has always been a hard worker and had many talents including electrical, farm
work, constructing farm equipment and putting up grain bins, putting together irrigation
systems, and figuring out and solving problems, but his favorite jobs were repairing and
pressing irrigation pipe and welding. He was always in high demand to work on pivots or wheel
lines and keep the farm equipment in shape. If he couldn’t fix something, there weren’t many
that could. He loved to invent, even as a child, and his mind was always in gear trying to find “a
better way”.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and not only
believed it but lived it. A great example of generosity, forgiveness and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Raymond Powell and Agnes Pearl Powell, and his siblings: Verla, Rulon, Eloise, Evelyn, Wendell, Thon, Seth, Shirley, Gerald, Phyllis, and Don. Hisson, Garth Powell, grandson, Brandon Kent Powell, and great-grandson, Liam Buckwalter.

Survived by his wife, Phyllis Powell; brother, Lavar Powell; and children, Kent (Lori)Powell, Jed (Kelli) Powell, Stacey (Shayne) Loftus, and Gordon (Shaneen) Powell, with eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Moore Stake Center (3100 N. 3350 W.) A viewing will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. with military honors. 1. I could always count on Leon to weld/ press pipe when it was needed. He was always busy but always found a way to fit me in. He was a great example on patience. I never observed him loosing his temper.
May the Lord’s most choice blessing attend you Phyllis and famliy.
