Barbara Veta Moss Thornton passed away from this world on June 17, 2023, at the home of her daughter in Shelley, Idaho.
She was born May 23, 1940 to Ralph and Veta Taylor Moss. Barbara grew up with an older sister Sharron, and younger sisters Diana and Vicki. Barbara spent her youth in Ririe, Antelope, Leadore, and mostly Arco, Idaho. She graduated from Butte High in 1958.
Barbara met Robert (Bob) Thornton in Arco after his service in the military. They were married on July 9,1960, and to this union were born three girls. Kim Strupp, Mona Knoll, and Denise (who was stillborn). They lived outside Arco on a small farm and had a happy life. They loved to bowl, and play pinochle with many friends. Barbara spent 8 years caring for Bob following his stroke, and then he spent 8 more years in nursing homes. Bob and Barbara, and their girls were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1988. After her retirement Barbara cared for her father in her home and they would enjoy fishing trips. Her Father-in-Law lived close and she kept an eye on him as well. About seven months before Bob passed, Barbara finally sold her beloved home and left Arco. She lived close to Bob and they had seven good months together. While she missed her beloved Arco, she did find pleasure in attending more family functions, and sporting events of her great grandchildren. In 2021, Barbara was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a traumatic surgery. She spent the next three years enjoying herself with her card-playing friends and neighbors who became as close as family. On May 22 Barbara learned that she had cancer throughout her body. The next day she celebrated her 83rd birthday with her sister. The following day she fell and that seemed to spiral the cancer, that was in her hip, out of control. She spent 10 days in the Community hospital and two weeks in Promontory Point trying to gain strength to go and live with her daughter. But on June 13th everything changed and the process of death began. She came to live with her daughter June 15th, for the final days and was released from life on June 17, 2023.
Barbara is survived by her girls, Kim (Karl) Strupp, Shelley, ID and Mona Knoll, Saint Anthony, ID; one sister Vicki (Gary)Toder, Idaho Falls,ID; 7 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren (2 due in the fall).
She is preceded in death by her husband Bob; parents, Ralph and Veta Moss; sisters Sharron and Diana; brother-in-law Don, and her grandson Craig Strupp.
